Protection for Your Finances!

I cannot help but remember when Wendy and I first began to tithe. We had given our lives to Jesus and our parents taught us to tithe.

As we first got married we thought "Well, we don't have enough money to tithe" so we just quit. We just moved into our house with two little children, we didn't have much money. There was no furniture in the house. The very first thing that happened in the new house was that a water pipe broke.

Instead of it costing me $183 which is what my tithe would have been, it cost me $450. What a surprise! I suddenly realised that the Word of God is true. When we tithe, God will rebuke the devourer for our sake.

I want to encourage you as you read this that God deals with our enemies.

When we are unable to deal with the enemy of poverty that comes against us, it is God that deals with poverty. Poverty is a terrible thing.

Jesus said that the Spirit of the Lord is upon Him. The very first thing He said He would do was that He would preach the Gospel to the poor.

When someone is poor, all options are taken away. They are unable to get an education, unable to do better in their position in life and everything seems to go wrong.

I can think of a poor gentleman who was in our church in the city of Johannesburg. He believed that if he would tithe and give God, that God would give him a miracle. He began to give to God consistently. one tenth of everything that God gave to him. It was during the late 1970s. There was a huge fuel embargo, everyone was selling their big motor cars. He was an individual that had to walk to church or ride a bus, he never had a car. He would wake up every Sunday and say "I just want to thank God for rebuking the devourer for my sake. I want to thank God that as I tithe, He would give back to me. Pressed down, shaken together and running over."

Each night, when he got home, he would take his dining room chairs and place them out. Two in the front, three in the back. He would tell his wife to sit next to him. Him and his wife would sit on the two chairs in the front and his children on the chairs in the back. The would thank God together for the motor car.

When people asked him how it was going, he would say "Well, I just want to thank God. I believe and have received a motor car. when I tithed, God rebuked poverty off my life and I believe God has given me a car."

It wasn't long and he was attending an auction where they were selling some of these big motor cars because there was no fuel. At the auction, a Jaguar was being sold. Brand new, had about 8000 miles on it. The auctioneer could not even sell it for $3000. Eventually the highest bid for it was $800. The auctioneer said "Before i give this car away, who is the oldest man here?" It just happened to be this man from the church. He raised his hand and pulled out his ID card, proof that he was the oldest man.

The gentleman who was the auctioneer said "Sir, before I give this car away, I will give it to you." So, that Sunday he came to church in a brand new car, a Jaguar.

You see, this man exercised his faith because he believed that when you tithe, God rebukes the devourer for you sake.

"'Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,' Says the LORD of hosts, 'If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,' Says the LORD of hosts."
